How I Fixed WiFi Disconnecting Again and Again?

A few weeks ago, I faced a highly irritating problem on my Realme 10 Pro+ running Android 13:

  • My Wi-Fi kept disconnecting every few minutes.

  • Streaming videos, attending online classes, and video calls were constantly interrupted.

  • Even though the signal strength showed full bars, the internet would stop working intermittently.

At first, I thought it was my internet service provider, but testing on another device showed the network was stable. This confirmed that the issue was specific to my phone.

After testing several solutions, I found practical fixes that permanently stabilized my Wi-Fi connection without additional apps.

Step 1: Restart Your Phone

Sometimes, temporary glitches in network processes cause Wi-Fi to drop repeatedly.

Steps:

  • Press and hold Power → Restart

  • Reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and monitor the connection

After restarting my Realme 10 Pro+, the Wi-Fi was more stable for a few minutes, but the problem returned occasionally.

Step 2: Toggle Airplane Mode

Airplane Mode refreshes all wireless connections and can fix repeated disconnections.

Steps:

  1. Swipe down and enable Airplane Mode

  2. Wait 10–15 seconds

  3. Disable Airplane Mode and reconnect to Wi-Fi

After doing this, my Wi-Fi connected more reliably, especially after switching between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

Step 3: Forget and Reconnect Wi-Fi

Corrupted Wi-Fi credentials can cause repeated drops.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Wi-Fi → Tap Network → Forget

  2. Re-enter the password and reconnect

This step permanently fixed disconnections that occurred when the phone tried to reconnect automatically.

Step 4: Disable Wi-Fi Power Saving Mode

Some phones disconnect Wi-Fi to save battery, causing frequent drops.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Wi-Fi → Advanced Settings

  2. Disable Wi-Fi Power Saving Mode or Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep

  3. Test connectivity

After disabling this, my Wi-Fi stayed connected even when the screen was off.

Step 5: Check Router Placement and Interference

Obstructions or interference can cause your Wi-Fi to drop.

Steps:

  • Move closer to the router or place it centrally in your home

  • Keep away from microwaves, cordless phones, and thick walls

  • Test connection speed and stability

After moving my router to a higher shelf and away from electronics, Wi-Fi disconnections stopped.

Step 6: Switch Wi-Fi Frequency Band

Most routers offer 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

Steps:

  • Connect to the other band (if you’re on 2.4GHz, switch to 5GHz and vice versa)

  • Check if connection stabilizes

On my Realme 10 Pro+, 5GHz provided higher speed indoors, while 2.4GHz was more stable for longer distances.

Step 7: Reset Network Settings

Misconfigured network settings can cause frequent Wi-Fi drops.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → System → Reset Options → Reset Network Settings

  2. Reconnect to Wi-Fi

This permanently fixed the repeated disconnections I experienced over multiple days.

Step 8: Disable VPN or Proxy

VPNs and proxies can interfere with Wi-Fi connectivity.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → VPN / Proxy

  2. Disconnect VPN or disable any proxy

  3. Test Wi-Fi stability

Disabling my rarely used VPN prevented automatic disconnections on home Wi-Fi.

Step 9: Update System Software

Software bugs can affect Wi-Fi connectivity.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Software Update → Download and Install

  2. Restart the phone

Updating to the latest Android 13 patch improved Wi-Fi performance and stability significantly.

Step 10: Clear Wi-Fi Preferences

Old or corrupted Wi-Fi preferences may cause repeated disconnections.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Wi-Fi → Advanced → Reset Wi-Fi Preferences

  2. Reconnect to your networks

After resetting preferences, my Realme 10 Pro+ maintained stable Wi-Fi for days without dropping.

Step 11: Check Router Settings

Sometimes routers disconnect devices due to IP conflicts or DHCP issues.

Steps:

  • Log in to your router

  • Assign a static IP to your device

  • Ensure DHCP and firmware are updated

After assigning a static IP, my phone stopped being disconnected automatically by the router.

Step 12: Limit Background Apps

Apps running in the background can overload the network, causing Wi-Fi drops.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Apps → Running Apps

  2. Close apps using Wi-Fi heavily (cloud backup, auto-sync)

Reducing background network usage helped stabilize my Wi-Fi during streaming and video calls.

Step 13: Optional — Clear System Cache

Old system cache can affect network performance indirectly.

Steps:

  1. Turn off the phone

  2. Press Volume Up + Power to enter recovery

  3. Select Wipe Cache Partition → Reboot

After clearing the cache, my Wi-Fi connection became smoother and stable.

Step 14: Optional — Factory Reset

If all else fails, a factory reset can fix stubborn Wi-Fi disconnection issues.

Steps:

  1. Backup all important data

  2. Go to Settings → System → Reset Options → Factory Data Reset

  3. Reconnect to Wi-Fi

This step is rarely necessary but guarantees resolution for persistent issues.

What Changed for Me

Before fixing:

  • Wi-Fi dropped every few minutes

  • Streaming videos and video calls were constantly interrupted

  • Even strong signals showed intermittent disconnections

After applying these steps on Realme 10 Pro+, Android 13:

  • Wi-Fi remained connected for hours at a time

  • Streaming and online work became seamless

  • No additional apps or tools were needed
